Dr. Raouf Guirguis, Chaiman & CEO


Raouf A. Guirguis, MD, MS, PhD, DLS’s President and CEO, is a successful serial entrepreneur, with over 187 issued and pending patents in the United States, Canada, Europe, Japan and Australia. Dr. Guirguis is highly recognized globally as a technology leader in the field of rapid diagnostics and new product development for cancer screening devices. Before acquiring DLS in 2001, he served as the founder, president and CEO of several other successful companies, including Cancer Diagnostics, Inc., Point of Care Technologies, Inc. and MonoGen, Inc. Dr. Guirguis has published numerous articles for U.S. and international publishers, including the National Cancer Institute and BETA publishing.

He has received several honors and recognitions for his work in research and development, including Marquee’s Who’s Who in Finance and Industry – 1995, Marquee’s Who’s Who – 1992. Dr. Guirguis served as Pathology Fellow, National Cancer Institute, NIH (1984-1989) and was a Georgetown University Scholar (1985-1988).

He holds an M.D. as well as an M.S., Studies in General Medical Practice, from University of Alexandria, Egypt. He also holds an M.S. in Biomedical Engineering and a Ph.D. in Physiology and Biophysics from Georgetown University. After completing his fellowship training at the NCI Dr. Guirguis has founded or Co-Founded Five R&D and Diagnostic Kit Manufacturing Companies in the field of Rapid Diagnostics. All of Guirguis companies were initially established on his own inventions or technologies in Medical Instruments, Rapid Diagnostics Kits, Environmental Testing, and Sample Collection and Identification.

Dr. Slowey is the Founder and Owner of Oasis Diagnostics® Corporation and its subsidiary Company, Bamburgh Marrsh LLC, founded in 2002, each are pioneers in the area of oral fluid diagnostics and testing. Dr. Slowey’s background is in Organic Chemistry; after being awarded his Doctorate from the University of Newcastle-upon-Tyne (UK), he spent several years as a Post Doctoral Fellow in Canada then 5 years in the pharmaceutical industry with Sterling Drug [UK]. He has over 32 years of experience in the clinical diagnostic and pharmaceutical industries combined. Over the years he has held positions as Director of International Sales and Chief Operating Officer (COO) and Vice President of Sales and Marketing for companies that were the original pioneers in the development of saliva diagnostic rapid tests for infectious diseases, and oral fluid collection devices.

He has extensive experience in structuring strategic alliances and license agreements with both start-up and Fortune 500 companies. Dr Slowey has 30 publications in peer-reviewed journals, fifteen (15) issued patents, twelve (12) filed patent applications and he has made a number of oral presentations at key scientific symposia on a variety of subjects including HIV diagnosis, nucleic acid testing, the status of oral fluid testing, the Japanese Healthcare Business and Thyrotropin Receptor Antibody Assays for the Diagnosis of Graves’ Disease.

Dr Slowey is the Founder and Co-Organizer of the North American Saliva Symposium [NASS, www.salivasymposium.com ] and is a Director of a small teaching college in Kampala, Uganda.
